Our Materials
Our shoes stand out for their softness and comfort. The uppers are crafted from cowhide, while linings and insoles are made from delicate goat leather. This choice of materials allows the shoes to quickly adapt to the shape of your foot, while maintaining softness and flexibility.
The soles of our shoes are made from a combination of leather and other materials, each selected specifically for each model. Over time, natural wear may cause scratches, scuffs, discoloration, and gradual wear of the soles and heel tips. To prevent damage, regularly replace the heel tips and check the condition of your shoes. Light-colored leather will darken over time due to oxidation – remember, this deepening of color is a natural aging process, not a defect.
Vegetable Tanning
Vegetable tanning uses environmentally friendly natural dyes such as tree bark, leaves, fruits, and flowers. This traditional Italian method is time-consuming and requires meticulous care. Leather products tanned this way retain their natural structure, porosity, and texture. During production, the leather is oiled and impregnated, requiring special attention to maintain its beauty and durability.
Thanks to these efforts, your Balagan leather accessories will not only be beautiful but also durable.
Daily Care for Leather Products
Our collection also features products that combine natural leather with other fabrics, such as cotton linings or linen bag bodies. These items should be cleaned only at a dry cleaner, and leather parts should be properly protected after washing.
Here are a few basic guidelines for caring for leather:
Avoid Excess Moisture: Natural leather does not handle water well! If your shoes or bag get wet, they may lose their elasticity, affecting their appearance and longevity. If exposed to water, gently dry them at room temperature by inserting shoe trees or soft cloths to maintain their shape. Apply the same method to your bag.
Be Cautious in Winter: Winter brings not only cold weather but also salt on sidewalks that can damage leather footwear. After each walk, carefully clean your shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to dry naturally.
Regular Maintenance: Leather requires regular cleaning and conditioning. Remove stains and dirt promptly to prevent them from penetrating the leather. Regular impregnation and the use of leather balms and waxes will keep your products soft, flexible, and resistant to scratches.
Before using any cleaning, conditioning, or protective products, always test them on a small, inconspicuous piece of leather to see how it reacts. Read labels and follow manufacturer instructions – don't cut corners! Leather is a beautiful material that rewards proper care with lasting beauty and durability.
Storing Leather Products Off-Season
As summer ends, it's important to store your summer shoes and bags properly. Before putting away leather products for a few months, ensure they are thoroughly cleaned and conditioned. To maintain their shape, stuff the shoes with paper, soft fabric, or shoe trees, and store bags in cotton dust bags to protect them from dust and damage.
